How can we minimize the effects of disability in our social life?
I am a Disabled Veteran with Gulf War and occupational disabilities and I have been struggling with this question for many years. The novelty of disabilities from those who are not regularly exposed to them cannot be avoided but I find having a good attitude and a good sense of humor go a long way to help. And they also improve your own outlook on yourself too.
And being open and honest and willing to share what your life is like can make new friends too. Also, do not worry if you think someone is pitying you because it may be the only way they know how to cope with the situation. Instead, show them how fulfilling your life is when you can.
I hope this advice is helpful to yourself and anyone here.
