Looking to live in Japan for 6 months with my Girlfriend in 2020, wanted to know if anyone knows of any places to stay for this long (that isn’t ridiculous money like a hotel would be)

I’m okay with one step but not anymore, happy to be a shared house as long as its close to trains and we would have my own room (for care reasons)

    Hello,

Yes, a hotel would be out of the question for sure.  There are Airbnbs that may work and a local version from Rakuten – https://vacation-stay.com/   (maybe @hemanthraz can comment since he works there).

My I ask what your visit is for?  Since a regular tourist visa only lasts 3 months, I assume you are coming to study?  If so, your school may be able to arrange an apartment for you.

    Hope this helps

    Hi,

I would be glad to check and see if there is something available for your needs.

May I know which areas you are interested in ?

Generally for durations longer than 1 month, people book in “Monthly mansions” which is kind of a short term lease. This would be cheaper than a hotel but might not be furnished in some cases.

First of all thank you very much for your replies!

I’ll explain my trip a little further:

I’m coming for 2 main reasons:

The olympics/paralympics. I interview disabled athletes for my podcast/youtube channel so looking to take advantage of them being in one location.

And soaking in the culture, I’ve been into Japanese culture my entire life mainly with cars and food and I feel a short holiday will not do it justice!

As for traveling length of time it depends on my benefits I receive in the UK and how long I can stay in japan for (looking into both currently) I read this information saying UK citizens can stay for up to 6 months https://www.uk.emb-japan.go.jp/itpr_en/index_000070.html but maybe that’s incorrect.

If not my back-up plan was to do 2 trips for 90 days each with a small break in-between.

As for accommodation needs. All I require is a private room for 2, being able to get in and out of place and be able to have enough room to maneuver my chair around (manual wheelchair)  I can deal with a small step but not multiple. Ideally somewhere to cook but totally fine with this being communal. As for Location, not that fussed as long as there is access to public transport fairly close and not on a hill! I use an front e-wheel for longer distances.

    Thank-you for you time

    Hey!

Not sure about the different requirements, but I know some people would pop over to South Korea for a day or two and re-enter for the next 90 days (its only a 2hr flight away, so you could just go for a day if you want!).

We only really focus on hotels, so I do suggest you try to work something out with @hemanthraz as they have a number of places that are accessible and others that are not necessarily accessible but way work for you!

If you add each other as friends, then you can send private messages to each other about details (ie exchange emails)

    Hi,

I checked in our site and there were no vacation rentals available for such long durations (there is a law in Japan that prohibits owners from renting out vacation rentals in most places for more than 180 days total, in a year).

Here are some listings that might suit your needs.

https://vacation-stay.com/listings/501 => A bit expensive, but seems like a good location

https://vacation-stay.com/listings/2071 => Reasonably priced, but its quite far away from the olympic action.

If you are looking to stay in the same place for a long time (ex. more than 30 days) then a monthly mansion might be better.

It is like a short term lease and there would be much more options available.

You can see some examples here (I selected areas in Tokyo within 5 minutes away from a station and which are foreigner friendly). Unfortunately, the site is all in Japanese and does not contain  accessibility information.
